During a Board of Peace event, the US president said he personally intervened to stop the India-Pakistan confrontation, warning both sides that trade negotiations would be halted unless they settled their differences and that 200 percent tariffs would be imposed if fighting continued.
The clash traces back to a May 2025 standoff following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians. India carried out strikes on terror bases in Pakistan-administered Kashmir and Pakistan under Operation Sindoor. New Delhi says the May 10 ceasefire was reached through direct talks with no third-party involvement.
Trump has repeatedly claimed he mediated, though the content and emphasis have varied over months, and some of his numbers about jets shot down have shifted. Critics note that India has rejected any third-party mediation.
The remarks come as global markets watch for signs of U.S. diplomacy in South Asia.
