Handwritten notes found during a residence raid point to ISIS links as Maharashtra ATS investigates a Mira Road stabbing and possible online radicalisation.
A 31-year-old man, Jaib Ansari, was arrested for stabbing two security guards at a Mira Road construction site. The attack occurred at the Asmita Grand Mansion complex in Naya Nagar, Mira Road East, in the Mumbai metropolitan region. The victims were identified as Rajkumar Mishra and Subroto Sen.
During a raid at Ansari's residence, Maharashtra ATS recovered handwritten notes in which he described himself as a lone wolf and expressed a desire to join the Islamic State. Officials said the notes described the attack as his 'first step' toward joining a terrorist organisation.
Ansari, a science graduate who had spent several years in the United States, had returned to India after reportedly struggling to secure work. He taught online chemistry from his Mira Road home.
Investigators are combing through digital footprints on his mobile phone and laptop to check for direct contact with handlers across the border. While the motive is not yet clear, officials said a religious angle is being examined, and the case was transferred to the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad for further inquiry.
The incident has underscored concerns about radicalisation online and the need for close monitoring of online content, as authorities widen the probe to determine any external links.
