The process of bringing back the mortal remains of the Andhra Pradesh victims of the recent Vietnam boat tragedy is steadily advancing, while the sole injured tourist, Gelle Kishore, is showing promising signs of recovery. Officials at the Andhra Pradesh Bhavan in New Delhi have confirmed these developments.
Mr. Kishore, who sustained injuries in the tragic incident, is currently receiving treatment at a Government Hospital in Vietnam. Authorities report that he is recovering steadily, offering a glimmer of hope amidst the profound loss faced by the victims' families.
In a significant step towards providing closure, the Embassy of India in Vietnam has officially appointed an authorized agency to facilitate the repatriation of the deceased’s mortal remains to India. The Embassy has confirmed that this crucial process has now commenced. The designated agency is expected to reach out to the bereaved families today (July 12, 2026) to secure the necessary authorizations for the release and transportation of the remains. Once these formalities are complete, comprehensive arrangements will be made to transport the bodies back to their respective native places in India.
Meanwhile, the Indian tourists who were rescued from the capsized boat are scheduled to return to India today, July 12. Their flights to native destinations have been arranged by the mobile service provider involved in organizing the incentive tour that turned tragic. The mortal remains of the 15 Indian nationals who tragically lost their lives are currently being transported to Ho Chi Minh City and are expected to arrive there by this evening. Following the completion of essential formalities in Ho Chi Minh City, the remains will then be transported onwards to India.
Officials at the A.P. Bhavan continue to maintain close coordination with the Embassy of India in Vietnam, actively monitoring the situation and ensuring that all necessary assistance is provided. The incident occurred during an incentive tour for Lava Mobiles staff, claiming the lives of 15 Indians among the 32 Indian tourists and four crew members on board. In response to the tragedy, Vietnamese authorities have arrested the speedboat captain involved in the incident. Additionally, the Telangana government has established a control room to assist the families affected by the tragedy.
