Harmanpreet Kaur admitted that batters let India down in the first two ODIs against Australia, contributing to back-to-back defeats in their first 50-over series since winning the World Cup. After India opted to bat first in the second ODI, they posted 251/9 with Harmanpreet scoring 54 and Pratika Rawal 52, but a string of dropped catches punctured their progress as Australia chased the target with five wickets in hand and 13.5 overs to spare. “Well, definitely we didn’t bat well today because as a group we decided that let's bat first and put a 300-plus total on the board because today’s pitch was far better than the previous one,” Harmanpreet said. “But unfortunately, we again made the same mistakes and we kept losing wickets in between, and that’s why we were short of lots of runs.” She added that clear improvement is needed in both batting first and chasing, stressing that the team must bat deep and consistently if they are to turn the series around.
