Bengaluru road-rage CCTV shows couple murder delivery agent; remanded

CCTV footage from Bengaluru captures a chilling road-rage incident that left a delivery agent dead and a Bengaluru couple under police custody. The victim, 24-year-old Darshan, was riding a scooter when the car of Manoj Kumar, 32, and Aarati Sharma, 30, struck him and then sped away. The couple has been identified and remanded to judicial custody for 14 days. Kumar is from Kerala and works as a Kalaripayattu martial arts trainer; Sharma is from Jammu and Kashmir.

According to investigators, Darshan had accidentally brushed Kumar's car earlier, apologized, and moved on. But Kumar, described by officers as enraged, took a U-turn, chased the scooter, and rammed it from behind. The impact threw Darshan and his pillion rider Varun onto the road, and the car did not stop. The driver deliberately veered left to strike the delivery agents, the police report adds. An extended version of the footage shows the couple returning to the scene a few minutes later to collect parts of their car. Wearing masks, they parked nearby and retrieved fragments before driving away again. CCTV evidence prompted a murder case to be registered and handed over to the Puttenahalli police.

Police say the case began as a hit-and-run but the CCTV footage changed the course of the investigation, leading to a murder charge. Kumar and Sharma were arrested and are now in judicial custody for 14 days as authorities probe the sequence of events and the couple's involvement. Kumar’s claim that his wife was not present at the time and only joined later to collect broken pieces is being scrutinized by investigators. The incident underscores the growing role of CCTV footage in Bengaluru in fast-tracking accountability for road incidents. As the inquiry continues, Darshan’s family and the city await further details from the Puttenahalli police and the judicial process.
