Trump Talks Modi on Iran Peace Talks, Strait of Hormuz Open

President Trump spoke with Prime Minister Modi to discuss the West Asia crisis as Washington weighs potential peace talks with Iran. The leaders stressed the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open and secure to protect global trade and energy flows, with Modi reiterating India’s support for de-escalation and peaceful settlement of the conflict.
Modi’s Lok Sabha remarks earlier underscored that while India supports diplomacy, it must cushion its economy and citizens from disruption. He called the attacks on commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz unacceptable and warned that difficult global conditions could persist, urging patience, restraint, and unity. He also noted India’s readiness to contribute to stability and highlighted measures like maintaining strategic oil reserves to mitigate supply shocks.
To coordinate a unified approach, the government convened an all-party meeting amid rising tensions in West Asia, with Defence officials reviewing preparedness and Parliament expected to discuss the economic and security implications. The government has emphasised that India’s diplomatic standing has been clear from the outset and that energy security remains a priority.
India’s diplomacy continues at a time of volatility, with Modi and his advisers projecting that while the road to peace may be long, restraint and multilateral engagement are essential to safeguarding growth, jobs, and the welfare of citizens.
