Amazon Web Services’ cloud infrastructure in the Middle East is grappling with outages after a UAE data center was struck by objects that sparked a fire, triggering localized power and connectivity problems.
AWS confirmed that two availability zones in the UAE region were without power, following an earlier report that one zone was affected.
The company said restoration would take many hours and urged customers to consider shifting workloads to other regions while it works to restore power and connectivity.
In the UAE, the outage also affected Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank’s platforms and mobile app, though it wasn’t clear if the issue was related to AWS.
There was no confirmation about any links to regional tensions after recent Iranian strikes, with AWS saying it could not confirm or deny a connection.
AWS pledged to provide updates as the situation evolves and to work toward restoring full service across the UAE and Bahrain regions.
