Expelled AIADMK veteran KA Sengottaiyan resigns as Gobichettipalayam MLA and fuels talk of joining Vijay’s TVK ahead of Tamil Nadu elections.
KA Sengottaiyan, a 77-year-old AIADMK veteran and nine-term MLA from Gobichettipalayam, resigned from the assembly on Wednesday and later met actor Vijay in Chennai, fueling rumors that he could switch to Vijay’s Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK).
Sengottaiyan submitted his resignation to Assembly Speaker M Appavu at the Secretariat after decades with the party founded by MGR, and, when asked about joining TVK, told reporters to 'wait for a day' while speaking of the pain he felt at the leadership's treatment of him.
His departure makes him the second Tamil Nadu legislator to leave his party for another ahead of elections; a few months earlier, Manoj Pandian left AIADMK for the DMK. If Sengottaiyan joins TVK, supporters from Gobichettipalayam and the western region could follow, bolstering Vijay’s growing political footprint.
With the political landscape in flux, all eyes will be on how this move influences the balance as parties gear up for the big test next year.
