India seals ₹858-crore defence deals with Russia and US firms
New Delhi signs ₹858 crore package for air defence and Navy P-8I MRO, highlighting balanced partnerships with Russia and the US amid Make in India push.
The Ministry of Defence on Friday signed contracts worth ₹858 crore to strengthen India’s air defence and naval capabilities. A ₹445-crore agreement with Russia’s JSC Rosoboronexport will procure the Tunguska Air Defence Missile System for the Army, a move that aims to bolster multi-layered air defence against aircraft, drones and cruise missiles. In a parallel development, a ₹413-crore contract with Boeing India Defense Private Limited covers depot-level inspection, maintenance, repair and overhaul of the Navy’s P-8I Long-Range Maritime Reconnaissance Aircraft under the Buy Indian category with 100% Indigenous Content. The signing was inked in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh at Kartavya Bhavan, New Delhi.
