The app, identified as BAT-BMS among others, was designed for battery management but reportedly exploited vulnerabilities in unsecured Bluetooth-enabled battery systems of e-rickshaws. Reports indicated that a test conducted by Hindustan Times, with a driver's consent, successfully demonstrated an e-rickshaw being switched off remotely and only restarted through the same application.
