Madurai: 200+ CITU Members Arrested in Labour Codes Protest

In Madurai on Tuesday, more than 200 members of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions gathered for a picketing demonstration near the Teppakulam post office, moving in a procession from Singarathope as they called for withdrawal of the four Labour Codes implemented by the Centre.
The protesters argued that the new codes erode long-standing workers' rights earned through generations, and they staged a picketing agitation during the march. After brief detention, they were released. The demonstration reflects a broader mood of opposition to the Labour Codes across Tamil Nadu, with similar protests reported in other districts.
As the anger over the codes grows, labour unions say they will continue to press for changes that protect workers' rights while urging constructive dialogue with authorities.
