Delhi is bracing for unsettled weather as the IMD forecasts dust storms, thunderstorms and a chance of light to moderate rainfall over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and the capital. Gusty winds and lightning could accompany the thundershowers, with some areas seeing isolated drizzle in the evening.
On Monday, temperatures spiked with Safdarjung recording 42.3°C and the Ridge hitting 43.8°C, but no heatwave criteria were met. IMD data show wind speeds peaking around 61 km/hour at Pragati Maidan and 54 km/hour at Pusa as a dust storm swept through the city later in the evening. A yellow alert is in place for Wednesday, with one to two spells of light rain and gusts up to 50 km/hour likely, possibly bringing the maximum below 40°C.
Officials say the cooling trend should continue at least until Thursday, with daytime highs expected to hover between 39°C and 41°C. If rain and clouds materialize, relief could come sooner. People are advised to stay indoors during gusty winds and keep an eye on IMD updates.
Beyond Delhi, similar activity is expected in surrounding regions, underscoring a wider north Indian pattern of volatile spring weather.
