Gold and Silver Jump as Geopolitical Tensions and Tariffs Drive Safe-Haven Demand
Gold and silver rise in India as global tensions and tariff jitters lift safe-haven demand; track today’s nationwide rates across major cities.
Gold and silver rose in global markets as geopolitical tensions and concerns over US tariffs boosted safe-haven demand. In India, prices held firm with 24-carat gold at ₹1,62,070 per 10 grams and 22-carat gold at ₹1,48,590 per 10 grams as of the latest close. The domestic mood mirrors a cautious investor landscape, with buyers watching global cues and policy signals closely.
Gold prices in major metros showed subtle variations: Bengaluru bid 24-carat gold at ₹1,61,900 per 10 grams, Chennai saw ₹1,62,560, Delhi recorded ₹1,62,070, Kolkata ₹1,61,910, Mumbai ₹1,61,930, and Pune ₹1,61,950 per 10 grams for 24-carat purity. Silver prices remained largely steady, with silver at ₹3,019 per 10 grams, ₹30,190 per 100 grams, and ₹3,01,900 per kilogram, reflecting steady demand for both industrial use and jewelry.
India remains the world’s largest consumer of silver and the second-largest holder of gold, with domestic prices influenced by global rates, import duties, taxes, bond yields, and movements in the dollar. Analysts note that while domestic rates show resilience, the path forward will hinge on policy developments and international market dynamics.
With tensions persisting and tariff uncertainties unresolved, buyers may continue to turn to gold and silver as hedges, even as volatility keeps prices range-bound in the near term.
