Tamil Nadu parties redraw seats ahead of polls as VCK sheds Nagapattinam and Vanur while CPI(M) negotiates a possible exchange for Vilavancode.
In the run-up to the Tamil Nadu assembly elections, the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) has left Nagapattinam and Vanur out of its current list of constituencies, even though Nagapattinam elected a VCK candidate, Aloor Shanavas, in 2021. The party's announced lineup now includes Tindivanam (SC), Kallakurichi (SC), Panruti, and other seats it held in 2021.
Shanavas is tipped to contest Panruti this time, signaling a rotation within the party and a bid to leverage Shanavas's local support base in a different constituency.
Separately, CPI(M) is reportedly in talks to swap Padmanabapuram with Congress’ Vilangodu seat in Kanniyakumar district, a move aimed at recalibrating alliances and seat shares ahead of the election.
These seat reassignments reflect the ongoing calculations and realignments that characterize Tamil Nadu politics as campaigns begin in earnest.
