Commercial LPG Prices Surge Again! Delhi and Kolkata Feel the Heat
Commercial LPG prices just jumped again on June 1st. Find out how much more you will pay and why the West Asia conflict is driving fuel costs through the roof!
Starting June 1st, businesses and restaurants are facing another hit to their wallets. Commercial LPG cylinder prices have been hiked once again, marking the fourth increase since conflict broke out in West Asia earlier this year. While domestic households can breathe a sigh of relief as their cylinder prices remain steady for now, the commercial sector is feeling the squeeze.
In Delhi, the price of a 19-kg commercial cylinder has gone up by ₹42, bringing the total cost to a staggering ₹3,113.5. Other cities are seeing even steeper hikes; in Kolkata, the price jumped by about ₹53.5. This isn’t just a one-off event. We’ve seen massive fluctuations recently, including a huge ₹993 hike back in May as the market reacts to global instability.
It’s not just big businesses being affected. The 5-kg free trade LPG (FTL) cylinders, often used by migrant workers who don’t have permanent address proof, have also seen a price increase of ₹11. In Delhi, these small cylinders now cost ₹821.5. This puts additional pressure on some of the most vulnerable workers in urban areas who rely on these mini-cylinders for their daily cooking needs.
So, why is this happening? The ongoing conflict in West Asia is the primary driver, causing ripples in global fuel markets and creating uncertainty. To prepare for potential supply disruptions, there is a push to increase fuel reserves to 30 days while intensifying measures to prevent hoarding. Even though domestic prices are stable, these rising commercial costs usually find their way to consumers through higher prices at local eateries and cafes.
