Tragedy Strikes Pune-Bengaluru Highway: 2 Dead, 12 Injured in Multi-Vehicle Crash!

A devastating multi-vehicle crash on the Pune-Bengaluru highway near Jambhulwadi in Maharashtra's Pune district early Sunday morning has left two people dead and twelve others injured, three of them seriously. The accident, which involved two trucks, a Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, and a Tata Altroz, has cast a somber shadow over the start of the week.

Police officials reported that the tragic incident occurred around 12:10 AM in front of Laxmi Lodge near Dari Pool. Initial investigations suggest an Ashok Leyland truck, traveling from Satara towards Pune, allegedly rammed into the rear of an Eicher truck.

The force of the collision was so immense that both vehicles veered into the opposite lane, subsequently colliding with a Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and a Tata Altroz that were traveling towards Satara.

The Eicher truck, Ertiga, and Altroz sustained severe damage.

The deceased have been identified as Hridaynath Mohan Gaikwad (47), a resident of Jogeshwari East in Mumbai, and Anandibai Ramchandra Wadkar (50), from Sector 10 in Nerul. Both victims tragically succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment.

Twelve others were injured in the pile-up, with three currently in serious condition, receiving medical care at various hospitals including Bharati Hospital, Morya Hospital, Silver Birch Hospital, and Shreyas Hospital.

Emergency services quickly responded to the scene, clearing the accident site and restoring traffic movement. The Ambegaon police station has registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicles Act.

Authorities have taken the truck owner, Sandeep Gorakh Suryawanshi (45) from Khatav, into custody.

Meanwhile, teams have been formed and are actively searching for the truck driver, Pramod Vitthal Wagh (40), also from Khatav taluka in Satara district, who is currently absconding.

Further investigation into the circumstances of the crash is ongoing.
