At a town hall in Minneapolis on Tuesday, Jan. 27, Rep. Ilhan Omar was sprayed with an orange liquid by a man who was later identified as 55-year-old Anthony Kazmierczak. The attacker was tackled by security and escorted out as Omar continued the meeting, unfazed by the disruption.
Law enforcement later said forensic examiners determined the liquid inside the syringe was likely apple cider vinegar, a finding reported by CNN and CBS citing investigators.
Omar's office also indicated the congresswoman had been sprayed by apple cider vinegar, according to preliminary reports.
Minneapolis Police Department and the FBI said they had no additional information to share as the investigation continued.
The incident underscores the risks public figures face at town halls, but Omar's poise drew praise from supporters while officials pledged a thorough review.
