EC: Form 6 Unchanged, Only Declaration Added Amidst Row! #Form6
Amidst political uproar, the Election Commission clarifies that Form 6 for voter registration remains unchanged, with only an additional declaration form introduced. Discover the full story behind the recent controversy.
The Election Commission (EC) has firmly stated that Form 6, used for voter registration, has not been modified. Instead, officials clarified that only an additional declaration form has been introduced, aiming to clear the air surrounding recent political accusations.
This clarification comes in the wake of observations made by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant regarding the approval of a supposedly modified Form 6. The issue gained significant political traction when Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi accused the Chief Election Commissioner of making illegal changes to the form.
The Election Commission has vehemently denied these accusations, directing attention to a previous press note for further clarification on the matter.
Adding to the political fire, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched a strong counter-attack against Rahul Gandhi.
Following the Supreme Court's decision to issue notices on the Form 6 matter, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra accused Gandhi of “spreading lies and confusion.” Patra emphasized that the Supreme Court had neither deemed Form 6 illegal nor rejected it.
He argued that the court's decision to issue notices to both the government and the Election Commission was a testament to the robust functioning of India's democratic process, rather than an indictment of Form 6 itself.
The controversy underscores the sensitive nature of electoral processes and the scrutiny political parties place on the Election Commission's actions, especially concerning voter registration forms.
