Diljit Dosanjh's 'Satluj' Released UNCUT After 3-Year Censorship Battle!

After a challenging three-year wait and a significant clash with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), director Honey Trehan’s much-anticipated film, now titled 'Satluj' (originally 'Punjab 95'), has finally made its way to audiences. The film, starring global sensation Diljit Dosanjh, along with Kanwaljeet Singh, Arjun Rampal, Suvinder Vicky, and Geetika Vidya Ohlyan, premiered on Zee5 this Friday.

The journey to release for this biographical drama, inspired by the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, was far from smooth. It remained in a state of limbo following reports that the CBFC had demanded a staggering 127 cuts. This prolonged standoff fueled speculation and concern among both the filmmakers and eager viewers.

However, in a significant development, Diljit Dosanjh has confirmed that the film has been released in its original, unedited form. During an Instagram Live session celebrating the release with director Honey Trehan, Dosanjh clarified that while the original title 'Punjab 95' could not be retained, the cinematic content remains entirely untouched. “Our film has finally been released on Zee5. Unfortunately, we couldn’t keep the original title Punjab 95 for certain reasons, so it is now called Satluj. But there are absolutely no cuts in the film,” he stated emphatically.

Dosanjh further reassured fans and critics alike by sharing his personal experience. “The version I watched in theatres two years ago is exactly the same one I watched at home last week. If even a single cut had been made, I would not have promoted the film,” he asserted, highlighting his commitment to the film's integrity and its powerful message.

Director Honey Trehan echoed Dosanjh's sentiments, adding another layer of authenticity to the claim. He revealed that Paramjit Kaur Khalra, Jaswant Singh Khalra’s wife, had also corroborated that the released version was unchanged. “Paramjit aunty also shared a post about the film and said this is the very same version she had watched earlier. Only the title has changed,” Trehan explained.

Trehan also underscored his unwavering stance during the certification process. He proudly confirmed that every scene and dialogue he had resisted removing remains intact in the final cut. “Everything I objected to, every word I refused to cut or mute, is still there in the film. So there is no question of any cuts.” This victory for creative freedom, though coming after a long battle, feels surreal to Dosanjh, who admitted the release still hasn't fully sunk in after years of uncertainty.
