YouTube Shorts Gets Major Update: Clear Screen, 2x Speed & Heart Reactions!
YouTube Shorts is rolling out exciting new features! Get ready for Clear Screen mode, 2x playback speed, and new heart reactions. Discover how these updates will transform your viewing experience, starting June 25!
YouTube is rolling out a series of significant updates to its popular short-form video platform, Shorts, designed to enhance the viewing experience and make it more intuitive. These changes, which include a new distraction-free viewing mode, faster playback controls, and revised engagement buttons, are set to begin rolling out to users from June 25.
One of the most anticipated additions is the new Clear Screen mode. This feature aims to provide a less cluttered viewing environment by temporarily hiding interface elements like icons, buttons, and text overlays while a Short is playing. This allows viewers to focus entirely on the video content without distractions, addressing a common piece of user feedback.
Another highly requested feature making its way to Shorts is support for 2x playback speed. Users will now have the ability to watch short videos at double speed, making it easier to consume information quickly or jump to specific moments within a clip. Alongside this, YouTube has introduced more playback controls, such as muting a Short by tapping the screen to pause and then selecting the mute icon. Viewers will also gain more control over video playback timing, including the option to set the Shorts timeline to zero.
The platform is also revamping how users interact with content. The traditional thumbs-up icon on Shorts will be replaced with a heart icon, which YouTube believes offers a more meaningful way for viewers to express appreciation for videos they enjoy. Concurrently, the dislike button is being retired from Shorts. Instead, users will be encouraged to utilize the existing ‘Not Interested’ and ‘Don’t recommend this channel’ options to personalize their recommendations and tailor their viewing experience. These updates reflect YouTube's continuous effort to adapt to evolving user preferences and viewing habits, based on feedback gathered since Shorts was introduced more than five years ago.
