Novо Nordisk has brought Ozempic to India, marking a new chapter for diabetes care in the country. The injectable drug, semaglutide, was approved by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation in October for adults with type 2 diabetes, and it’s now being introduced with a range of dosing strengths.

The starting weekly dose of Ozempic in India is 0.25 mg, priced at ₹2,200 per week. For those needing higher doses, the company has published monthly prices of ₹10,170 for 0.5 mg and ₹11,175 for 1 mg. The smallest dose translates to roughly ₹8,800 per month if used continuously for four weeks.

Ozempic works as a GLP-1 receptor agonist. In addition to helping improve glycemic control when used alongside diet and exercise, it has become widely known for its potential appetite-suppressing effects, which can support weight management in some patients. It is typically taken once a week and is already a global bestseller. While it is approved for adults with type 2 diabetes, reports around the world have also highlighted its use for weight loss in certain contexts.

The Indian launch places Ozempic among the newer, premium diabetes therapies available in the country. Patients and providers will need to weigh the benefits against the cost, as the monthly prices for higher doses can be substantial. Novo Nordisk has made the medicine available in 0.25 mg, 0.5 mg, and 1 mg strengths, aligning with the dosing options seen in other markets.
