KA Sengottaiyan: Ninth-time TN MLA seals TVK win under Vijay's banner
AIADMK veteran KA Sengottaiyan shines for Vijay's TVK, clinching his ninth assembly win from Gobichettipalayam as the two-year-old party expands its Tamil Nadu footprint.
KA Sengottaiyan, a veteran Tamil Nadu politician, is now a central figure in Vijay's new party, TVK, serving as Chief Coordinator of its executive committee after his expulsion from AIADMK in November 2025 following reported disagreements. He secured his ninth assembly win in Gobichettipalayam, marking the first time the seat has returned to him under Vijay's newly formed party, TVK.
Sengottaiyan, born January 9, 1948, began his legislative career in 1977 at the age of 29 and has spent decades with AIADMK, including a stint as minister for school education. His long service and organizational skills are seen as a critical asset for TVK as it builds its leadership lineup in Tamil Nadu.
After results were declared on Monday, Sengottaiyan led a massive celebratory roadshow through the streets of Erode, greeted by thousands of supporters and party cadres. Despite changing allegiance, he has kept his grip on Gobichettipalayam, a constituency he has represented nine times.
TVK’s rise under Vijay’s leadership continues to reshape Tamil Nadu politics, with veteran leaders like Sengottaiyan bringing decades of experience to a two-year-old party that is seeking broader influence beyond its initial base. The election mood signals a potential realignment in the state as TVK lobs ahead in the new political landscape.
