The Srinagar-Jammu national highway stayed shut for the third day on Sunday as Kashmir woke to fresh snowfall, with parts including Srinagar recording new layers of snow. The 270-kilometre road has seen hundreds of vehicles stranded since Friday, when heavy snowfall forced its closure. Snow clearance teams are working around the clock, but authorities warn that restoration could take time given the continuing snowfall along sections in the Kulgam district.
Flight operations at Srinagar airport resumed after runway clearance and are continuing normally, officials said. Despite the weather, three flights have already arrived, indicating that air connectivity is gradually stabilizing even as road travel remains disrupted. Srinagar city also reported light snowfall in the early hours, underscoring a broader winter pattern affecting the region. Travelers are urged to monitor advisories and avoid non-essential journeys until conditions improve.
The ongoing winter weather highlights the persistent travel challenges in Kashmir, with authorities preparing for possibly more snowfall in the coming days and continuing efforts to clear the highway and assist stranded motorists.
