Rahul & Priyanka Face FIRs: Congress Alleges 'Vote Chori' Amid EC Row
Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra face FIRs after protesting alleged "Vote Chori" at Akashvani Bhawan. Is the 'diabolical duo' rattled? Dive into this escalating political showdown.
Delhi witnessed significant political drama this week as the Delhi Police registered an FIR against prominent Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, along with their supporters. The charges stem from their alleged forceful entry into Akashvani Bhawan during a protest march on October 6, 2026.
This development has ignited a fresh war of words between the Congress and the ruling government, with the opposition party claiming the move is a sign of the "diabolical duo", referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, being "rattled" and "desperate." The incident unfolded when an INDIA bloc march, aimed at the Election Commission office, was intercepted by police. Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi, along with other MPs and around 260 individuals, then engaged in an over eight-hour sit-in inside Akashvani Bhawan.
Their protest targeted what they described as alleged irregularities in the functioning of the Election Commission, particularly under Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, and the "Special Intensive Revision" (SIR) of electoral rolls.
The Congress has branded SIR as "Shahenshah Instigated Removal," alleging it's a systematic effort at "vote chori" or electoral manipulation.
According to Delhi Police officials, the FIR was filed following a complaint alleging that the Congress leaders and their accompanying members entered the Akashvani Bhawan premises without due permission. This action by the police has drawn sharp criticism from the Congress camp, with General Secretary in-charge of communications, Jairam Ramesh, leading the charge.
Mr. Ramesh took to X (formerly Twitter) to assert that for nearly two years, Rahul Gandhi has been
relentlessly exposing, through factual evidence, the Vote Chori conspiracy hatched between the PM & the HM on one side and the CEC on the other.
He further charged that "crores of genuine voters have lost their Constitutional right to vote through the atrocious process of SIR." Ramesh condemned the Delhi Police's swift action, stating that when Rahul Gandhi adopts the method of satyagraha to highlight these injustices, an FIR is registered against him and other leaders.
He reiterated that "The diabolical duo is nervous, rattled and desperate. The writing on the wall is clear." The Congress's continued agitation against the Chief Election Commissioner and their strong stance on electoral integrity underscore the escalating political tensions.
As the country approaches future elections, the allegations of "vote chori" and the subsequent legal actions against opposition leaders are set to remain a contentious topic, shaping political discourse and public debate.
