Investigation into the Ahmedabad AI-171 crash is in its final stage, with a report expected within a month as officials promise fairness and transparency.
The investigation into Air India Flight AI 171, which crashed after take-off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, is in its final stage and a detailed report is expected within a month. The incident, which occurred on June 12, 2025, involved a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner en route to London Gatwick and left 260 people dead—241 aboard and 19 on the ground. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau is leading the inquiry, with independent resources provided as needed.
Union civil aviation minister Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu said the probe is progressing very strongly and emphasized that when foreign nationals were aboard, the investigation would be subject to scrutiny by other countries. He stressed that investigations must be conducted with seriousness, fairness, and transparency while addressing the concerns of the victims’ families.
The Centre has set up a dedicated ministry cell to coordinate compensation related to the crash, underscoring the government’s commitment to timely relief for those affected. The minister spoke during the inaugural session of the India Aircraft Leasing and Financing Summit 2.0 at GIFT City, noting that India’s aviation sector is transforming rapidly and attracting global attention. He highlighted that India has become the world’s third-largest domestic aviation market, with about 85% of scheduled fleet on lease, a factor he said will be critical for sustaining future growth.
As the investigation nears its conclusion, analysts and families alike await the findings to guide potential safety measures and regulatory actions, with implications for airlines, manufacturers, and the broader aviation sector.
