Andhra Pradesh Police Arrest 50 Maoists in Major Multi-District Crackdown
Security forces arrest 50 Maoists across multiple districts in a sweeping operation, seizing arms and cash as they target the network linked to Madvi Hidma.
The Andhra Pradesh police announced the arrest of 50 CPI (Maoist) operatives across Krishna, Eluru, NTR Vijayawada, Kakinada and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema districts in a major operation. The detainees include three Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee members, logistics and communication operatives, and armed platoon members, many with ties to the late central committee member Madvi Hidma. The operation is described as intelligence-led, multi-agency, and was planned under the leadership of the director general of police and the special intelligence bureau chief, aiming to be pin point, silent and coordinated.
The police noted that several arrested cadres had fled from Chhattisgarh’s Sukma, Bijapur, Narayanpur and West Bastar districts under sustained security pressure and sought temporary shelter in urban areas of Andhra Pradesh to regroup and project their continued existence by carrying out offences in the state.
This crackdown comes in the wake of a major encounter in Maredumilli, where six Maoists were killed, including a top commander, and where security forces had neutralized a significant portion of the network. After the Maredumilli encounter, authorities say many Maoists crossed into Andhra Pradesh and attempted to reestablish their command structures in urban spaces, prompting the multi-district operation to disrupt and dismantle their networks.
