Two Arrested After Stabbing on UK Train Near Huntingdon
Two men are in custody after a stabbing on a Cambridgeshire train, injuring multiple passengers; authorities say it is a major incident and investigations are ongoing.
Ten people were injured on a train in Cambridgeshire on Saturday evening, with nine reported to be in a life-threatening condition. British Transport Police said the attack occurred as the service was travelling toward Huntingdon, and the train was stopped at Huntingdon station. Two men were arrested at the scene as counter-terrorism officers joined the investigation.
Emergency services rushed the victims to hospital, and rail services were suspended while investigators secured the area. Armed officers attended and the line remained blocked as detectives collected evidence and interviewed witnesses.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned the 'appalling incident' and urged people to follow police instructions. Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood said she was deeply saddened and asked people to avoid comment and speculation in the early stages of the probe.
Cambridgeshire Constabulary said officers were coordinating with British Transport Police, and that a major incident had been declared. The investigation is ongoing as authorities review CCTV footage and speak to passengers.
