Modest Mouse & My Morning Jacket Drop Neil Young Tribute Covers!

Music lovers rejoice! Two of indie rock's most beloved bands, Modest Mouse and My Morning Jacket, have just released their contributions to the highly anticipated Neil Young tribute album series. These covers offer fresh perspectives on Young's iconic catalog, all while supporting a great cause: The Bridge School.

The new tracks are part of the 'Heart Of Gold' series, specifically Volume 2 - 'Out Of The Blue' and Volume 3 - 'Into The Black', which are set to drop on November 6. Fans have already had a taste of what's to come with King Princess's rendition of "Helpless" and Jaco Rosa's take on "After The Gold Rush," but today's reveals are stirring up even more excitement.

Modest Mouse, collaborating with Chicago rock group Califone, has reimagined Young's 1975 track "Barstool Blues." This cover will appear on 'Vol. 3 - Into the Black.' Frontman Isaac Brock shared his enthusiasm for the project, revealing he initially considered covering "Cortez The Killer." However, he found a deeper personal connection with "Barstool Blues," allowing him to truly sink his teeth into the song.

Brock playfully mentioned giving his version a "Kraut" twist, promising something distinct from the original.

Meanwhile, My Morning Jacket tackles the powerful anthem "Like A Hurricane," featured on 'Vol. 2 - Out of the Blue.' Known for their expansive soundscapes, fans can expect a compelling interpretation from the Kentucky rockers, further enriched by collaboration with Preservation Hall Jazz Band. The stakes are clearly high when covering a legend like Neil Young, but both bands have embraced the challenge with creativity and respect, delivering performances that are sure to spark conversation and delight fans old and new.
