This marks just the second time in his PGA Tour career that he has pulled out mid-event. The decision comes as McIlroy was four under and in a tie for ninth when Saturday’s rounds were set to begin.
He is expected to be fit to compete at the Players Championship next week, giving him a chance to rebound quickly and continue his spring schedule.
