BBC revives the classic Big Break with Stephen Hendry and Paddy McGuinness, promising fast-paced snooker frames and laughs for a new generation.
The BBC is reviving the classic gameshow Big Break after a 24-year break, promising a reimagined format for today’s audience. The revived series will bring back the addictive mix of fast-paced snooker frames with a relaxed, comedic atmosphere.
Stephen Hendry, the seven-time world snooker champion, will co-host the show alongside presenter and comedian Paddy McGuinness. Hendry will take on the trick-shot challenges that made the original so memorable, following in the footsteps of the late John Virgo, while McGuinness steps into Jim Davidson’s shoes as host. The familiar theme tune will also return, updated for a contemporary audience.
Each episode will feature three contestants, helped by professional snooker players, competing for cash prizes. The revived Big Break has been commissioned by BBC Daytime and Early Peak for BBC Two and iPlayer, and the series will comprise 20 half-hour episodes.
The original run of Big Break lasted from 1991 to 2002, becoming a Saturday evening staple on BBC One. The revival follows the growing trend of bringing back 1990s favorites to modern screens, with Hendry and McGuinness bringing both expertise and a fresh dynamic to the show.
