Ted the patterdale terrier mix and fan favorite from Mortimer and Whitehouse: Gone Fishing has died at the age of 13. The terrier first joined the BBC series in 2020, becoming a regular companion on the river-based adventures with Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse. His presence on screen alongside the duo captured hearts, and he even branched into publishing with A Pawtobiography in 2024, which became a Sunday Times bestseller.
Ted’s owner and Gone Fishing executive producer Lisa Clark revealed that she rescued him from a dogs’ home in Surrey in 2013 when he was about six months old. Clark described Ted as more than a family pet, highlighting how he delighted in the show’s riverbank escapades, often nicking Jammie Dodgers from Bob and bait from Paul. She added that he will be sorely missed both at home and on screen, noting that he leaves behind another dog, Bo the briard, whom he shared a life with.
In tributes released by the show’s stars, Mortimer recalled Ted as “the best companion and the greatest little chum,” while Whitehouse praised him as more than a dog, joking that he was “a species all of his own.” The pair confirmed that Ted will make a final on-screen appearance in the forthcoming ninth series, which is due to air later this year.

His book, A Pawtobiography, published in 2024, celebrated his adventures and connection with viewers, underscoring the special bond between pets and television audiences.
