Sensex rises 204 pts, Nifty crosses 25,900 as market regains momentum
Indian stocks edge higher on upbeat global cues and an improving growth outlook, with Eternal and Titan among the leading gainers.
Domestic equity benchmarks opened on a positive note as global markets firmed and signs of revived foreign inflows supported sentiment. Optimism around a potential trade deal with the United States added to the momentum. At 9:17 am, the Sensex was up 204.43 points to 84,270.18, while the Nifty climbed 60.60 points to 25,927.90. The broader mood remained constructive as traders watched key levels and early breakout signals for a continued recovery ahead.
Among Sensex constituents, Eternal advanced 0.85% to Rs 291.30, while Titan Company rose 0.81%. Other notable movers included Axis Bank, NTPC and Sun Pharma, which gained 0.78%, 0.73% and 0.60% respectively as buying interest broadened. The market wove through a page of mixed signals, with tailwinds strengthening by the day and the economy’s growth prospects looking somewhat improved relative to earlier estimates.
Analysts highlighted 26,000 as a near-term resistance, followed by 26,100. On the downside, 25,700 remains an important support level. A breakout above 26,000 could trigger short-covering and extend the recovery, according to market commentary.
Global cues remained supportive but nuanced: Asian markets were mostly mixed to lower, while Japan’s Nikkei 225 moved higher, and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng inched up. Wall Street closed with a mixed tone overnight, reflecting a cautious but steady risk-on mood in global equities.
On the domestic front, foreign institutional investor participation has turned meaningfully supportive this month, providing a further nudge to the ongoing market recovery. Traders advised keeping an eye on macro signals and any developments in trade discussions that could influence risk appetite in the near term.
