Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif first broke the news on X, stating that a peace deal "has been REACHED" and an official signing ceremony is scheduled for June 19 in Switzerland. This announcement was swiftly corroborated by U.S. President Donald Trump, who, celebrating his 80th birthday, confirmed the deal's completion.
In a significant development for global trade and energy markets, President Trump also authorized the immediate and toll-free opening of the Strait of Hormuz and simultaneously ordered the removal of the United States Naval blockade. His declaration, "Ships of the World, start your engines. Let the oil flow!" underscores the economic implications of the agreement.
Initially, Iran had not immediately confirmed the deal, having earlier vowed retaliation against a strike by Israel on Hezbollah in Beirut.
