Mumbai CNG supply set to restart by Nov 18 after pipeline damage
Gas disruption hits Mumbai as GAIL pipeline damage stalls CNG across the region; restoration expected by November 18, says MGL.
The disruption to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) supply in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region followed damage to GAIL’s main gas pipeline inside the RCF premises, Trombay, severing supply to MGL’s City Gate Station at Wadala since Sunday, November 16, 2025. Of the 389 CNG stations across the city and its suburbs, 225 are currently operating, while the rest face shortages. MGL says it is prioritising domestic Piped Natural Gas consumers and that a portion of stations in Mumbai, Thane, and Navi Mumbai remain non-operational due to the CGS Wadala outage and the downstream network.
Rectification work is underway, and MGL expects gas supply to be restored by November 18 as the pipeline network is reconnected. The disruption has prompted queues at several pumps as drivers seek fuel, with the broader network gradually normalising once supply returns to CGS Wadala.
The city witnessed a rush to CNG pumps amid the outage, underscoring the dependence on the network for transport fuel and the importance of rapid restoration to resume normal traffic and daily commutes.
