Grow Your Pension Like a Plant! 🌱 52% Haven't Checked Their Pot!

The 'Pension Attention' campaign is calling on people across the UK to give their retirement savings the same care and attention they would a garden plant or a prize-winning vegetable. This urgent plea comes as new research reveals a concerning trend: over half (52%) of adults surveyed admit they have never checked their pension pot.

The study, commissioned by the pensions industry-led campaign (coordinated by the Association of British Insurers and Pensions UK), also highlighted that a significant one in three people (33%) are unaware of what funds are actually in their retirement pot. Furthermore, nearly three in ten (29%) confess they have no idea how much money they will need to comfortably retire.

These figures stem from a survey of 2,000 UK adults conducted by OnePoll in July and August.

To make the message more relatable, the campaign has enlisted the help of giant vegetable growers, including Guinness World Record holder Kevin Fortey, also known as “Mr Giant Veg”. Fortey draws a compelling parallel:

One tiny seed, given enough time and a bit of care, can grow into something incredible. I think pensions are much the same.

Pensions minister Torsten Bell echoed this sentiment, encouraging everyone to get involved with growing their pension savings. “What you plant today shapes what you’ll harvest at retirement,” he stated.
