Two KDMC corporators go missing; Sena UBT seeks police probe
Shiv Sena (UBT) lodges a missing-person complaint after two KDMC corporators vanish, prompting police to probe possible pressure, fraud, or kidnapping.
The Kalyan unit of Shiv Sena (UBT) filed a police complaint alleging that two of its newly elected corporators cannot be contacted. Madhur Umesh Mhatre and Kirti Rajan Dhone have not been reachable despite repeated attempts with family members and party office-bearers. The complaint at Kolsewadi police station requests registration of a missing person case and a fair investigation. The party leader said the sudden disappearance raises concerns about personal security, democratic values, law and order, and public trust, and that the possibility of pressure, fraud, kidnapping, or other criminal activity cannot be ruled out.
In the KDMC results declared on January 16, the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena won 52 seats in a 122-member civic body, with the BJP close behind at 51. Shiv Sena (UBT) trailed with 11 seats, followed by the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) with five, Congress with two, and NCP with one. The Kalyan-Dombivli area has seen shifting loyalties, including cooperation between Sena and MNS after parting ways with their pre-poll allies. Notably, remarks from MNS chief Raj Thackeray suggested that any flexible stance in politics would not be for personal gain, underscoring the volatile post-poll landscape.
Police said the complaint has triggered a probe, with officers examining the circumstances surrounding the two corporators’ disappearance. The incident adds to the ongoing post-poll churn in KDMC and raises questions about security for elected representatives and the broader integrity of local governance.
