Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently used his monthly Mann Ki Baat address to highlight India’s growing defence capabilities, the outstanding achievements of Indian students in international science Olympiads, and significant community-led environmental conservation efforts. The address also included a call for citizens to support indigenous products, plant trees, and participate in the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign ahead of Independence Day.
The 136th episode of the radio programme, aired on Kargil Vijay Diwas, commenced with PM Modi paying tribute to the brave soldiers who fought in the 1999 Kargil War. He emphasized that the nation not only honors their sacrifices but also actively strengthens its military capabilities through indigenous technology. Citing the induction of INS Mahendragiri into the Indian Navy, successful tests of the Pinaka long-range guided rocket, and the Kusha missile system by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Modi asserted India’s steady march towards self-reliance in defence. He added that agreements related to BrahMos and Astra missiles signed during his recent visit to Indonesia reflect growing global confidence in Indian defence technology, signaling that India is continuously scaling new heights in defence production, exports, and cooperation with friendly nations.
Shifting focus to education and science, PM Modi extended his congratulations to Indian students for their stellar performance at international Olympiads, calling it a matter of national pride. He specifically mentioned the four International Olympiads held this month: in Paris (Physics), Dubai (Chemistry), Quezon City, the Philippines (Biology), and Shanghai (Mathematics). India topped the Physics Olympiad with all five participants winning gold medals and achieved its best-ever performance in Chemistry with all students securing gold. In Biology, all participants won medals, including one gold, and in Mathematics, the country bagged two gold and four silver medals, showcasing the exceptional talent of Indian youth on the global stage.
Environment and conservation formed another major theme of the address, with Modi urging citizens to contribute to a greener future. He also reiterated the importance of supporting indigenous products, reinforcing the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (Self-Reliant India) initiative.
