CBI to Probe Disha Salian's Death: Bombay HC Orders Fresh Investigation

The Bombay High Court has delivered a significant ruling, ordering the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to launch a fresh probe into the death of former celebrity manager Disha Salian. This decision comes after her father, Satish Salian, raised serious suspicions about the circumstances surrounding her passing in 2020.

On Wednesday, September 2, 2026, a Bench of Justices Sarang Kotwal and Ranjitsinha Raja Bhonsale instructed the CBI to register a First Information Report (FIR) and record Mr. Salian's statement. However, the court explicitly stated that no individual should be treated as an accused until sufficient material is gathered against them during the investigation.

Disha Salian tragically died on June 8, 2020, after falling from the 14th floor of a residential building in Mumbai's Malad area. The city police had initially registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) and, following an inquiry, concluded her death was a case of suicide. This conclusion, however, was vehemently challenged by her father.

Last year, Satish Salian filed a petition in the High Court, alleging that his daughter was gang-raped and murdered.

He further claimed that there was a politically orchestrated cover-up to shield influential persons, and he sought an FIR against Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray. His advocate, Nilesh Ojha, also expressed doubts about the thoroughness of the initial police probe.

The High Court took a critical stance on the Mumbai police's earlier refusal to file an FIR regarding the murder allegations, with reports indicating inconsistencies between the suicide theory and presented evidence. Moreover, the family reportedly did not receive copies of the post-mortem report or the ADR for years.

The court has now directed the Mumbai police to immediately hand over all case papers to the CBI.

Should the CBI's investigation conclude that no case is made out, they are to file an appropriate summary report before the concerned court. Satish Salian will retain the right to challenge any such report. This development reopens a high-profile case that has attracted considerable public attention, given Salian's connection as a former manager to the late actor Sushant Singh Rajput.
