Dozens of Gujarat schools were evacuated as police investigate bomb-threat emails; searches ongoing with no threats found yet.
On Monday, bomb-threat emails targeted a large cluster of schools across Ahmedabad and Vadodara, prompting swift evacuations and security sweeps. Officials said that while the calls for concern were widespread, no suspicious devices or materials were discovered during initial searches. The response involved rapid coordination between police and security agencies to ensure student safety.
In Ahmedabad, roughly 15 schools reported receipt of the threatening emails. Institutions named in the notices included DAV International School, Asia School, Ankur International School, and Sant Kabir School. School managements immediately alerted local police stations and followed established security protocols to safeguard students and staff while areas were sanitized and inspected.
In Vadodara, about 13 schools faced similar emails, with Don Bosco and Baroda High School among those affected. The city’s security teams—comprising the Special Operations Group, Crime Branch, and Bomb Detection and Disposal Squads—carried out comprehensive sanitization exercises. Nine of the affected campuses had their inspections completed, with work on the remaining ones continuing.
Law enforcement has registered a case with the cybercrime police and is pursuing a detailed probe to identify the sender and the origin of the emails, aiming to thwart similar attempts in the future. Authorities noted that similar emails received earlier in January had turned out to be a hoax, but stressed that the matter would be treated with full seriousness.
District Education Officer Rohit Chaudhary emphasized strict adherence to security protocols and the need for swift reporting of any suspicious activity. Vadodara’s Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Himanshu Verma reiterated that no threat material had been found so far and that students had been sent back home after the checks. The evolving investigation will determine whether the incidents are linked and help prevent recurrence.
