Greta Thunberg Arrested in London at Hunger-Strike Palestine Action Rally

Greta Thunberg was arrested in central London on Tuesday while supporting pro-Palestinian activists who are staging a hunger strike to protest their detention while awaiting trial on charges related to earlier demonstrations. The protest group Palestine Action, which the government has banned as a terrorist organisation, says eight members are on hunger strike to demand release and accountability. The protest unfolded outside Aspen Insurance’s offices, which activists say are linked to Elbit Systems, an Israeli defence firm. City of London police said a man and a woman were arrested on suspicion of criminal damage, and a third woman was later arrested for supporting a banned organisation. The first two hunger-strikers have reached 52 days without food and are described by Palestine Action as being in a critical state where death is a real possibility. The government has so far refused to intervene in the judicial process, stating that bail and detention decisions are matters for the courts.
