Stalin inaugurates ₹12.92-cr water project in Gudiyatham, opens Ranipet traders complex
Tamil Nadu CM M.K. Stalin inaugurates a ₹12.92-crore AMRUT 2.0 water project in Gudiyatham and Madhanur, plus a permanent Ranipet traders complex, to boost water access and urban commerce.
Chief Minister M.K. Stalin virtually inaugurated a combined water supply initiative covering Gudiyatham and Madhanur under Vellore and Tirupattur districts, along with a permanent commercial complex for retail and wholesale traders in Ranipet town. Officials from the Tamil Nadu Drinking Water and Drainage Board said the ₹12.92-crore project is being implemented under AMRUT 2.0 (Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation) and will help meet rising water needs, especially in summer.
Gudiyatham municipality currently generates around 8.85 MLD under the Palar and CWSS network, but water reaches only 24 of its 36 wards, with some residents relying on tanker lorries and street tanks. The new storage facilities aim to bridge this gap and provide piped water to more households. The Palar river remains the key water source for the project, and the initiative covers the Gudiyatham municipality as well as five villages and 17 habitations under the Madhanur panchayat union near Ambur.
During the visit, S. Pankajam, a resident, said the expanded storage will ease the daily trek for water during shortages. S. Suresh Kumar, commissioner of Gudiyatham municipality, noted that the initiative would help deliver piped water to more wards and improve reliability in the system.
In Ranipet, the permanent commercial complex for retail and wholesale traders was also inaugurated, signaling a boost to local commerce alongside improved urban services under AMRUT 2.0.
Officials emphasised that AMRUT 2.0 aims to upgrade urban infrastructure and services, with a focus on strengthening water security during hot months and expanding service coverage to more residents.
