Baramati, Maharashtra — NCP-SP MLA Rohit Pawar on Saturday pressed for an independent investigation into the January 28 Learjet crash at Baramati that killed former deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar and four others.
In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with a copy to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Pawar asked for civil aviation minister K Ram Mohan Naidu to resign until the inquiry is completed, citing alleged links between the operator, VSR Ventures, and Naidu.
He argued that such a resignation would help ensure the DGCA's independence and prevent any perceived interference in the probe, stressing that serious questions have arisen about whether the investigation could be compromised.
Later, speaking from Sharad Pawar's residence, Rohit Pawar told reporters that his party was not alleging direct political or financial links but wanted an independent inquiry to guarantee transparency.
The Civil Aviation Ministry said a preliminary report would be released by February 28.
The Baramati crash remains a flashpoint in Maharashtra politics, with opponents and allies watching closely as investigators pursue the truth behind what happened near the Baramati airport.
