The momentum behind this demand was evident at a recent victory rally in Mumbai, initially celebrating another successful protest. However, the focus quickly shifted to the E20 issue. Thousands, including a significant turnout of Gen Z and millennials, gathered to voice their discontent. Slogans filled the air, with many calling for the resignation of Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, holding him accountable for the E20 rollout. Figures like Shubham Shyam, a 32-year-old protester, articulated the sentiment, stating, "E20 kills vehicles and people's pockets" and that it's time to "rest, reset, and then take down Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari."
The E20 Janta Party emphasizes that they are not seeking subsidies, but rather transparent fuel labeling and the publication of clear data on E20's effects. They want consumers to be fully informed and empowered to choose their fuel. Transporters have also thrown their weight behind this campaign, signaling a broader mobilization with plans for a march to Parliament.
Politically, the rally also saw leaders like Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray and MNS chief Raj Thackeray addressing the crowd. Uddhav Thackeray advised the Prime Minister to focus on national issues, asserting that the country was uniting beyond traditional divides.
