Tamil Nadu Sends 300 Tons of Relief to Cyclone-hit Sri Lanka
Tamil Nadu ships 300 tonnes of relief—dhal and sugar—to cyclone-struck Sri Lanka, signaling strong cross-border solidarity.
The Tamil Nadu Government dispatched 300 tonnes of relief materials in three ships from V. O. C. Port to cyclone-ravaged Sri Lanka on Saturday. The cargo, comprising dhal and sugar, was loaded onto three Indian naval ships and sent off in the presence of District Collector K. Elambahavath, Corporation Commissioner C. Priyanka, Additional Collector (Development) R. Aishwarya, Mayor Jegan Periyasamy and Revenue Divisional Officer M. Prabhu. Minister for Social Welfare P. Geetha Jeevan flagged off the ships, underscoring the goodwill behind the aid.
"These ships not only carry the relief materials, but also convey the goodwill of Tamils. We stand with the affected Sri Lankans during this time of distress," Ms. Geetha Jeevan said.
Officials noted the relief was mobilised through multiple departments of the Tamil Nadu government and is part of ongoing humanitarian support for cyclone-hit Sri Lanka. The operation reflects a continued regional effort to assist communities reeling from cyclone Ditwah’s impact and highlights the close ties between Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka during times of crisis.
The three ships carrying essential supplies demonstrate a swift, organized response aimed at meeting daily needs on the island, while reaffirming a message of solidarity from one southern Indian state to its neighbor.
