US Strikes Escalate: Iran Accuses "Barbaric Attack" Near Children's Hospital

The United States has dramatically escalated its military operations in Iran, launching a fifth consecutive day of strikes and widening its targets across the country. These intensified attacks, primarily aimed at curbing Tehran's ability to threaten the Strait of Hormuz, have targeted coastal defense systems and missile infrastructure.
Iranian state media have reported widespread explosions in several northern and southern cities, as well as around the capital, Tehran. However, the most contentious accusation comes from Iran's foreign ministry spokesperson, Esmail Baghaei, who described a US strike near a children's cancer hospital in Ahvaz, in the country's south-west, as a "barbaric attack."
Baghaei stated that the Shahid Baqaei Hospital was forced into an emergency evacuation of 211 patients undergoing chemotherapy, causing "severe suffering and anxiety" for the children. He denounced the incident as a "cowardly war crime against the most innocent of human beings." The US has not yet commented on this specific allegation.
As the conflict intensifies, Iran's parliament speaker characterized the situation as an "existential war with America." The renewed and expanded strikes have further diminished hopes for reviving a recent ceasefire agreement, pushing the already volatile Middle East region closer to a broader confrontation.
