Defence Minister Virtually Addresses Joint Services Camp in Lakshadweep

Rajnath Singh, the minister of defense, spoke via video conference on Tuesday at the opening ceremony of the Indian Navy's Joint Services Multi-Speciality Medical Camp in Lakshadweep.

Singh said the large-scale medical camp organised by the Indian Navy reflects the Government of India's commitment to providing quality healthcare to people in remote areas, in line with the vision of 'Swasth Bharat'.

In a post on X, the Defence Minister shared a video clip and wrote, "Addressed the inaugural ceremony of the Multi-Speciality Joint Services Medical Camp at Kavaratti in Union Territory of Lakshadweep through video conference. This large-scale medical camp being organised by the Indian Navy highlights the Government of India's commitment to bringing quality healthcare closer to citizens in remote areas, in furtherance of the vision of 'Swasth Bharat'."

"The comprehensive screening, early diagnosis, timely medical advice, medical interventions and free distribution of medicines would contribute to long-term health benefits for the island community," the post read.

From January 12 to 16, the Indian Navy will host a Joint Services Multi-Speciality Medical Camp in the Union Territory of Lakshadweep. The goal of the five-day health camp is to provide Lakshadweep residents with complete medical care through treatment services, specialist consultations, and some surgical procedures, such as cataract surgery.

This program is a part of the Indian Navy's ongoing efforts to support and enhance the island's current healthcare services by regularly holding camps as part of outreach activities for Navy Day. Over the years, dental surgery and a variety of primary care specialties were provided in the medical camps on the majority of Lakshadweep's islands.

The health camp has been transformed into a multi-specialty camp thanks to advancements in healthcare, ongoing support from the UTL Administration, and a very positive response from the local community. Agatti, Kavaratti, Androth, Amini, and Minicoy islands will all be covered by the camp. A Joint Services Medical Team made up of seasoned medical officers and experts from the Indian Army, Indian Navy, and Indian Air Force will carry it out.

A wide range of clinical expertise will be ensured by the involvement of professionals from all three Services, enabling comprehensive and integrated healthcare delivery throughout the camp period.
