Jammu is witnessing strong protests as people displaced from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) gathered on Saturday, June 13, 2026, to condemn the tragic killing of civilians in PoK. The demonstrators are urging the Indian Central government to expose Pakistan’s actions on the international stage.
The protests saw participation from various groups, including members of the BJP PoJK Refugee Cell and activists from SOS International, a registered body representing displaced individuals from PoK. They collectively denounced the repression occurring across the border and called for immediate measures to ensure the safety of civilian lives in the region.
Reports indicate that over 20 people have been killed and many more injured in PoK due to police action. This violence erupted following protests against a recent ban on the Jammu and Kashmir Joint Action Committee, which had been advocating for crucial demands such as subsidized electricity and flour, along with the restoration of political and economic rights for local residents.
BJP activists, led by Surinder Singh Gilli, converged at the Jammu Press Club before marching towards the statue of Maharaja Hari Singh at Tawi bridge, where they chanted strong anti-Pakistan slogans. Mr. Gilli emphasized, “Pakistan must stop the oppression of the people of PoK who are on the road in support of their demands for basic rights and amenities, but their peaceful protests are being met with bullets.” He also appealed to the United Nations and international human rights organizations for intervention, urging Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Home Minister Amit Shah to highlight Pakistan’s atrocities to the global community.
“The people of PoK are Indians, and we stand firmly with them. We are prepared to make every sacrifice in support of our brothers and sisters there,” Mr. Gilli added, highlighting the solidarity felt within India. Concurrently, SOS International chairman Rajiv Chuni led another demonstration in Bakshi Nagar. He referenced the unanimous resolution by the Indian Parliament declaring PoK an integral part of India, stating that this is an opportune moment for India to uphold that position and intervene to protect the lives and property of those facing repression.
