The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, have accepted an offer to stay in a royal residence during their upcoming visit to the UK next month. This highly anticipated trip will mark the first time the family, including their seven-year-old son, Archie, and five-year-old daughter, Lilibet, has travelled to the UK in four years.
While the specific royal residence has not yet been publicly disclosed, previous discussions have suggested Buckingham Palace as a possible location for such visits. This stay is being viewed as a significant step towards mending relationships within the royal family, particularly between Prince Harry and his father, King Charles. It will be the first time Harry has seen King Charles in nine months, following their last meeting at Clarence House in September. More importantly, it will offer King Charles the opportunity to meet his grandchildren, Archie and Lilibet, for the first time in four years.
Adding a poignant layer to their visit, Prince Harry is also planning to take his children to visit the grave of their late grandmother, Princess Diana, at Althorp House in Northamptonshire. This will be a significant and emotional moment for the family. The trip also coincides with the one-year countdown to Prince Harry’s Invictus Games, which are set to be hosted in Birmingham next July, with the family expected to participate in lead-up celebrations.
The Duke and Duchess do not currently have a permanent home in the UK, having vacated Frogmore Cottage in 2023 following the release of Prince Harry’s memoir, 'Spare'. Furthermore, Prince Harry remains in an ongoing legal dispute with the Home Office regarding security arrangements for his family during their time in the UK, a situation that arose after his level of royal protection was downgraded when he stepped back from official duties in 2020.
