The 2026 MTV Video Music Awards are poised to be an unforgettable night, with music superstar Taylor Swift set to make history. She will receive the inaugural Artist Director Honors, a prestigious award recognizing artists whose behind-the-camera work has expanded music video possibilities and advanced visual storytelling.
This new accolade will make Swift the most awarded artist in VMA history, pushing her total to 31 awards and surpassing her tie with Beyoncé, who also holds 30.
Adding to the excitement, Swift is slated to debut the music video for her new song, “Patient Zero,” during the ceremony. The visual, which she directed, features notable actors Colin Farrell and Dakota Johnson.
This single also marks her first release since her marriage to Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce in July.
Pop icon Madonna leads the pack with an impressive 11 nominations for the 2026 VMAs. Her nominations span major categories including video, artist, and song of the year, alongside nods for best collaboration, dance, direction, and various technical awards.
Madonna's enduring career is highlighted by her consistent presence in VMA nominations across every decade of her musical journey, holding 19 competitive wins and being the first solo female artist to receive the Video Vanguard Award in 1986.
Following Madonna, Taylor Swift is close behind with nine nominations, including video and artist of the year. Other prominent artists receiving multiple nominations include Ariana Grande and Sabrina Carpenter with seven each, and Bruno Mars, PinkPantheress, and Zara Larsson with five nods. Blackpink's LISA secured four nominations, while Shakira, Tate McRae, GENER8ION, and Yung Lean each received three.
The star-studded event will be hosted by 13-time VMA nominee and three-time winner Snoop Dogg. The two-hour show will broadcast live from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 27, at 7:30 p.m. Eastern and 4:30 p.m.
