Lucknow woke up to a high-profile exchange as Azam Khan sat down with Akhilesh Yadav to discuss Uttar Pradesh's political path. Khan, recently released after nearly two years in jail on multiple charges, framed the meeting as more than a routine chat—it was a deliberate message about resilience, justice, and the push for political change.
The veteran SP leader told reporters that the real aim was to show that despite oppression and historic injustice, there are people whose endurance stays stronger than stone. "Many of our people are still in jail. When we meet, we remind each other of those painful times so that future generations remember that such injustice once took place," he said, adding that he appreciated sections of the media for what he called a "change of perception" and noting that those who once misunderstood him now recognise that great injustice was done.
Khan recalled the Income Tax raids at his residence and at Jauhar University in Rampur, insisting such actions must not happen again. "Such misuse of agencies must not happen again. Until the political system improves and people understand what is truly happening, injustice will continue. But I sense change," he added. The meeting marks the second major interaction between the two leaders in a month, following Akhilesh Yadav’s visit to Rampur on Oct. 8 to meet Khan, signaling ongoing outreach.
Analysts say the gathering is being read as a strategic move to frame resilience and justice as a shared banner for the opposition in the state, with aims to shape a narrative around accountability and reform ahead of future political contests. Both leaders emphasized their commitment to change while avoiding speculation about any specific court case. The optics suggest a concerted effort to project unity and a durable counter-narrative to the ruling establishment.
